Wondering what benefits you could be eligible to salary package? Read on and find out!
From doctors, nurses and midwives to hospital and ambulance staff, Australia’s health workers provide a tireless, critical service to the community. In return you are entitled to salary packaging exemptions that don’t apply to many other sectors. What this means for you and the million-plus other Australians employed in our healthcare system is that, depending on your employer, you could be eligible to salary package up to $9,010 in living expense items that attract Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) – including items you’d ordinarily pay for anyway, such as mortgage repayments, groceries and utility bills. Difference now is you get to pay for them with pre-tax rather than post-tax dollars – up to a cap of $9,010. Additionally, you may also be entitled to package up to $2,650 in Meal Entertainment or Venue Hire. You can also package as many FBT-free benefits as you like – including self-education and work-related expenses such as a new laptop – and you can also take out a novated lease.
