Who can package Education Expenses for Children?
This salary packaging option is available to the following industries:
Separate to the School Tuition Fees benefit, staff who qualify as “overseas employees” – such as those working in Australia on a temporary 482 work-skilled visa – may be eligible to salary package certain education expenses for their children
Eligibility Criteria
To access this benefit, the following conditions must be met:
- The benefit must relate to the full-time education of an employee’s child under the age of 25
- The education must be carried out at a school, college, via a tutor or other eligible educational institution
- The child’s education must be undertaken over a period in which you are classified as an overseas employee. Further, you must be employed and working in Australia for more than 28 days and less than 4 years on a 482 visa
- Your employer’s policy.

Eligible Education Expenses
The cost of full-time education for a school, college, university or by a tutor for a child under the age of 25 years.
Expenses you may package include:
- School fees
- The cost of extracurricular activities held at your child’s school
- Tuition fees for the child attending a coaching centre after school hours
- Textbooks
- Pens, paper, calculators and stationery (excluding laptops and tablets)
- School uniforms
Important information:
You can only salary package educational expenses while you are on 482 working visa. You must inform your employer and Maxxia of any changes to your personal circumstance that may affect your eligibility to receive this salary packaging benefit. Failure to do so will result in you being responsible for any Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) that may arise.
