2024 Kia Carnival revealed

Australia’s favourite people mover gets hybrid power and new style

The covers have come off the redesigned Kia Carnival, which is set to arrive in Australian showrooms in 2024 with a hybrid powertrain for the first time.

Featuring a raft of exterior changes, Australia’s most popular people mover has been brought closer into line with Kia’s bold new design language and now features vertically stacked headlights with an elaborate daytime running light signature within a revised front grille.

The front bumper has also been updated and is matched at the rear-end by a tweaked apron – now with SUV-style cladding – and a redesigned tailgate with a relocated position for the numberplate, new ‘star map’ tail-light clusters and the adoption of an integrated handle.

Completing the visual overhaul is new-look, eight-spoke alloy wheels that form a cross pattern.

Under the bonnet, the Carnival will now be available with the same 1.6-litre turbo petrol-electric hybrid powertrain as used in the Kia Sorento large SUV and the Sportage mid-size SUV.

Kia has yet to reveal full specifications for the Carnival, but it is expected to produce identical combined outputs of 169kW and 350Nm with an average fuel consumption figure of around 6.0L/100km.

The hybrid powertrain will join the existing petrol and diesel engines in the global line-up, which bodes well for its introduction to Australia. However, previous supply restrictions on the Sorento Hybrid may suggest its availability may be limited here.

Kia has also confirmed a new flagship Gravity model for the Carnival in South Korea which adds a series of exclusive touches, including a unique grille, skid plates and exclusive alloy wheels along with a darkened roof rack, C-pillar and exterior trim highlights that it claims provides “a strong, yet luxurious feel.”

The 2024 Carnival is expected to arrive Down Under in the first quarter of next year and will be available in six colours: Ivory Silver, Snow White Pearl, Astra Blue, Aurora Black Pearl, Pantera Metal and Ceramic Silver.

Local pricing and specification details will be announced closer to launch.
