Funeral Insurance – What Can I Claim?
You can salary package the cost of funeral insurance premiums using pre-tax income if this benefit is offered by your employer, provided the policy is in your name or your spouse’s name and you have paid for it directly.
What you can claim
- Funeral insurance premiums paid by you
- Policies in your name or your spouse’s name
- Premiums you have already paid as a reimbursement
- Instalment-based premiums, such as weekly, fortnightly or monthly direct debits, if you provide the required evidence
- Up to 12 months of instalments, including the amount already paid and/or the remaining instalments until your renewal date, where your policy shows ongoing payments and you provide evidence of at least one payment
What you can't claim
- Insurance that was not paid directly by you
- A policy in someone else’s name, unless it is in your spouse’s name
- Claim without a current insurance policy document and proof of payment
