Subaru confirms Trailseeker coming Down Under
Battery-powered adventure wagon will the quickest Subaru offered locally

The fastest and most powerful Subaru is coming to Australian showrooms in 2026.
But it won’t be hot rod version of its rally-inspired pocket rocket, the WRX, and it won’t even wear the company’s iconic STi high-performance badge.
Instead, it will be a battery-powered alternative to its ever-popular Outback station wagon called the Trailseeker.
Set to become the Japanese brand’s second dedicated electric vehicle above the Toyota-twinned Solterra SUV, the Trailseeker (which is actually called E-Outback in Europe) packs a twin electric motor set-up that produces a combined output of 280kW and can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.4 seconds.
Its 74.7kWh CATL battery provides a maximum driving range of 533km and can be recharged at up to 150kW on DC power, yielding a 10-80 per cent top-up in “approximately” 30 minutes.
AC charging can be done at up to 22kW (three-phase) while vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities are capped at 1500 watts.
The suspension offers 211mm of ground clearance – lower than an Outback – and it can tow up to 1500kg braked.
The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker will arrive in local showrooms in the second quarter of the year, with pricing and specification details to be announced closer to its release. However, expressions of interest are already being taken.
It’s almost certain to become the most expensive model in Subaru Australia’s range given the Solterra tops out at near enough $70,000 plus on-road costs.
