Why is the EV Discount under government review?

When the discount became law in 2022, the terms of the Act stated that a review would occur by March 2027 to understand how successful it had been. Key factors the government are considering include cost, and uptake versus expectations. The review will examine:

• The role of the electric car discount in supporting early adoption of electric vehicles.
• Whether concessions are still required for EV adoption.
• Whether current settings will be altered (for example, whether FBT exemptions will be tightened, or limited to certain vehicle types or values).
